Amsterdam-Zuid is made up of several neighbourhoods, each with its own unique characteristics. Want to go the cultural route? Then visit Amsterdam Oud-Zuid where you will find the lively Vondelpark and the cultural highlight the Museum Kwartier, home to many extraordinary museums. Our favourites are: the Rijksmuseum, where you will immerse yourself in the history and art of the Netherlands with artists such as Rembrandt and Vermeer. The Stedelijk Museum where you can admire modern and contemporary art and design. And the Van Gogh Museum which, as the name suggests, is entirely dedicated to Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. In the student district de Pijp you will find the most cosy cafés and restaurants where many students and artists meet. The well-known Zuidas is also part of Amsterdam-Zuid. Its location close to Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam city centre makes the area a magnet for the largest national and international companies. Where one might expect only boring office buildings here, this is far from true. Buildings such as Infinity, ING's old headquarters, the Viñoly tower, The Rock and The Valley also give this area character. And finally, the Rivierenbuurt and Apollobuurt can also be found in Amsterdam-Zuid. Together, these neighbourhoods are part of Plan Zuid, a project carried out between 1917 and 1925 in the style of the Amsterdam School.
Had enough of all the cultural and less cultural things and want to treat yourself? Then head for one of the most famous shopping streets in the Netherlands, the P.C. Hooftstraat.
