In the summer the Vondelpark is teeming with picnicking families, students with a book in their hands, couples with their feet in the water, barbecuing youngsters and walking tourists. All enjoying the sun's rays and the smell of grass. The occasional duck that gasps for breadcrumbs or a leaf that swirls down ... an oasis of peace in the bustling center of Amsterdam. But every now and then the Vondelpark itself is also buzzing; during the summer open air theater, the park changes into a large stage for theater, dance and cabaret.
